Catalogs and Resources: Library from Home
Virtual catalog
Like many services today, library business can be done from a home computer with an Internet connection.

The Morse Institute Library’s catalog and other services are available to home users via the World Wide Web 24 hours a day.

The Minuteman Library Catalog

The Minuteman Library Network is composed of 41 public and academic libraries (http://www.mln.lib.ma.us/info/index.htm). Your Minuteman library card allows you to use any library in the Network and/or to request materials from other member libraries.

My Account

When you click on the “My Account” button you can set up a library account which allows you to view your library record, renew items, place requests on titles, view holds, view fines and fees, and change your PIN number and email. To create your account go directly to http://library.minlib.net/patroninfo. You will be prompted to create a PIN. The PIN can be between 3 to 30 alphanumeric characters.

Helpful hint: Logon to your account before you start searching the catalog. This way you do not need to enter your library card number and PIN each time you request an item.

The Virtual Catalog

The Virtual Catalog allows you to search several library catalogs at once, and request items not held by any Minuteman library. Institutions currently participating in the Virtual Catalog project are:

    Metro Boston Library Network (MBLN)
  • Minuteman Library Network (MLN)
  • North of Boston Library Exchange (NOBLE)
  • Old Colony Library Network (OCLN)
  • SAILS
  • University of Massachusetts at: Boston, Dartmouth, and Lowell

To Search the Virtual Catalog go to http://www.mln.lib.ma.us/virtcat.htm then choose the library where you would like to pick up your Virtual Catalog requests. Enter your library card number, and, finally, choose “Search/Request” to begin searching.

To Request items from the Virtual Catalog choose “Request” once you have found an item; you will be asked to confirm your name and choose a pickup location. Allow at least 1 week for your request to be filled.

If you have any questions, or if the Virtual Catalog does not contain the material you need, please do not hesitate to contact Reference Services at 508-647-6521.

For more information on the Virtual Catalog go to the Massachusetts Library Information Network Virtual Catalog Information Page.

The Virtual Catalog system is being funded with state funds through a series of grants from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners to an alliance of the Boston Library Consortium and Massachusetts library networks.

The Library is accessible to all. If you require special accommodations, please contact us.
